Survey: US Consumers Prefer WiMAX To Cellular Data Or Wi-Fi

In a head-to-head comparison, respondents to a US consumer survey indicated a significant preference for WiMAX over cellular data and Wi-Fi services, reports In-Stat. This comes from a survey conducted earlier this year with over 1,200 respondents. Texas Instruments Widens Lead In The Analog Market

With 17 percent growth in 2006, Texas Instruments expanded its lead in analog with a 14 percent share of the global $37 billion market. Other top players include STMicroelectronics, Infineon Technologies, NXP, Analog Devices and National Semiconductor. Strong growth in 2006 was seen by NXP, which is focusing more on higher margin products for vertical markets. Other movers include Freescale Semiconductor, Intersil, and ON Semiconductor. Nvidia To Enter High-Performance Computing Market This Summer

The graphics chipmaker Nvidia is preparing its G8 series chips for the oil and gas industry, finance, medicine, and scientific research. Nvidia, known for graphics cards used to boost video game performance, will launch a product line in June for high-performance computing, a new market for the company. Based on Nvidia's G8 series chips and its Cuda software development kit, it will be for workstations and server clusters. Such computing jobs are common in the oil and gas industry, finance, medicine, and scientific research. The company sells its graphics processing units, or GPUs, for use in consumer electronics, especially gaming computers and portable entertainment devices, and in professional workstations, such as those used in computer-assisted design. In branching out, Nvidia is using the same parallel-processor design it offers in its other product lines. Open Mobile Video Coalition To Promote Mobile Digital Broadcast TV In US

Current members – covering 95 million households -- include the broadcast television station groups of Belo Corp., Fox, Gannett, Gray, ION Media, NBC Universal, Sinclair and Tribune. Coalition invites all U.S. based broadcasters to join group in driving mobile digital video innovation. Nine of the largest US television broadcast groups announced the launch of the “Open Mobile Video Coalition,” an industry alliance to accelerate the development of mobile digital broadcast television. Broadcasters jointly announcing the Coalition today are: Belo, Fox Television Stations, Gannett Broadcasting, Gray Television, ION Media Networks, the NBC & Telemundo Television Stations, Sinclair Broadcast Group and Tribune Broadcasting Company. After Six Years of Talk and Little Action, The U.S. Toughens Its Stance on China. The Bush administration fired another salvo in its campaign against Chinese trade practices yesterday, announcing suits to force Beijing to crack down on rampant counterfeiting and drop restrictions on the distribution of American music, movies and books.
